Parish church to the Holy Saint Nikolaus (Roman Catholic)

The first mention of a St. Nicholas chapel in Ischgl dates back to 1443. The church was enlarged as early as 1471 and consecrated on 27 July 1483 by the auxiliary bishop of Chur, Johannes, in honour of Saints Nicholas and Achatius cum Sociis.

According to the chronicler Christian Zangerl, the church tower was built in 1459. In 1649, the church was rebuilt and newly consecrated by the Prince Bishop of Chur, Ulrich VI, on 2 August 1655.

However, only a few years later (1673), a conflagration burned down the entire village except for three houses. The church was also badly affected and had to be re-roofed and the walls repaired. While the church was being rebuilt, services were held in the chapel at Pasnatsch.

In 1755, however, the parish priest of the time, Joseph Moritz, had the church demolished and the present church built. After the new building was completed in 1757, the Prince Bishop of Chur, Johann Anton von Federspiel, consecrated the church built in rococo style.
